I have to confess I am not the best at recycling and reusing materials. I think about it often and know I can do better. Not only do images like this stop me in my tracks, but each time I dispose of an empty box or bottle I ask, "What could I do with this?"
Inevitably, an avalanche of bottles and boxes and odd knick-knacks tumbles onto the floor as I try to save them for reuse or craft time.
My apartment building doesn't promote recycling...but my husband asked at the front office and--Ta-da!--they gave him bags to be picked up with recycling instructions. All we had to do was ask.
There are so many innovative ideas to reuse and upcycle common household items. I decided to share some of the links I came across on our exploration for Earth Day last month. Check out our Fun Page.
My daughter and I often collect things on nature walks. A few photos are shared in the Home Page slideshow. I hope this instills a respect for nature and awe in the world around her. Without any prompting from me, she adamantly expresses her concern about the countless trees being torn down (to make way for a multitude of new complexes popping up in the area).
I hope we are able to share enough interest with our children so that they will care for our planet with determination and consistency. One of my favorite quotes credited as an old Native American proverb states:
"We did not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children."
What are we leaving our children?
