The focus of this edition of Learning Naturally is developing pre-reading skills including recognition of letter sounds. Here are a couple things I would like to emphasize.
1) Encourage a love of print by surrounding your child with books and reading to him or her daily.
2) Even though identifying letters is important, recognizing the sounds that match each letter is more useful as an emerging reader.

Try out this simple song book, then enjoy a snack! It's also a great springboard to discussing healthy (and some not so healthy) foods. You can try your hand at some food art, too.

Here's another suggestion--By labeling objects around the house, you can expose your child to reading words without pressure.
